Every mission needs its unsung heroes.
At The Long Walk Home, our mission to prevent veteran suicide is bold, urgent, and deeply personal. But it’s not just our programs, workshops, and mentorship that make the difference—it’s the people. The everyday heroes who lend their time, their hands, their hearts.
This National Volunteer Week, we want to pause and recognize the incredible volunteers who make this mission possible.
From helping organize retreats and community events to mentoring veterans one-on-one, our volunteers embody the spirit of service that defines this organization. Many of them are veterans themselves—walking the same path, extending a hand to those just starting their journey. Others are military family members or simply compassionate individuals who believe, like we do, that no one should have to walk alone.
Their impact is immeasurable. It’s in the quiet conversations after an ASIST workshop. The shared laughter during a morning yoga class. The steady presence during moments of vulnerability. Every ride given, every form filled, every meal served, every listening ear offered—it all matters. It all adds up.
To our volunteers: You are the bridge between hope and healing. You give more than your time; you give a piece of yourself. And because of you, lives are changed.
We see you. We thank you. And we honor you—not just this week, but every day.
To anyone reading this who feels the call to make a difference: Join us. Whether you can give a few hours a month or a few days a year, your presence could be the turning point in someone’s life. Because when one of us walks, we all walk.
